‘Windows 11 Alpha’ malware attack tries to trick people – Times of India

Microsoft has already announced that it will start rolling out windows 11 From 5 October. However, ahead of the official launch of the latest operating system, a Windows 11-themed malware campaign is trying to trick people into sharing their financial data. According to a report by Bleeping Computer, discrepancy Security researchers have discovered a new malware attack that uses a Word document claiming to be made of ‘Windows 11 Alpha’. This file then prompts users to perform a few simple steps to open it. After performing the steps mentioned by the users a code is activated which steals their financial information.

The researchers also revealed that cybercrime group FIN7 is potentially responsible for the malware campaign. Researchers have not been able to confirm the exact method of spreading the malicious file, but attackers are using phishing or spear phishing techniques.
According to the report, “Cybercriminals imbued Microsoft Word documents with macro code that eventually downloads a JavaScript backdoor that lets the attacker deliver any payload they want.
Researchers from cybersecurity company Anomaly analyzed six such documents and said the delivered backdoor appears to be a variation of the payload typically used by the FIN7 group since at least 2018.
