Rahul Gandhi said that the journey is like austerity for him
Chennai:
In what is seen as a “masterstroke” of the Congress for the upcoming 2024 general election, party MP Rahul Gandhi will begin the party’s ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ from Kanyakumari today.
-
Rahul Gandhi began his day with a visit to the memorial of his father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. He then left for Kanyakumari to attend an event at the Mahatma Gandhi Mandapam where Chief Minister MK Stalin would hand over the national flag to him to launch the yatra.

The 3,500-km-long yatra, which the Congress has called the “longest political march” organized in the country in the last century, will begin with a rally at around 5 pm, and a ‘padayatra’ or foot march. Thursday morning.
-
Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress workers and leaders will walk for about six-seven hours every day to cover 150 states and two union territories over the next 12 days. In a statement, the party said that all state unit presidents will undertake ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ in their respective states in solidarity with Mr. Gandhi.
-
Congress said that Rahul Gandhi will walk from Kashmir to Kanyakumari where the yatra will end. Claiming an increase in social polarization and political centralization in India, Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that the yatra was like an ‘penance’ for him to unite the country.
-
The Congress says the yatra is the party’s biggest ever “public outreach programme” during which they will try to connect with the common people on various issues including inflation, inflation and unemployment.
