Wellington: Australia’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Alyssa Healy has endorsed BCCIplan to launch Women’s IPL Next year and said that India can become unbeatable in 10 years due to franchise based T20 league.
Last week, the BCCI announced that it plans to start the women’s IPL by 2023, though the decision would need approval at its annual general meeting. BCCI has proposed a six-team WIPL next year.
“The announcement is great. We thought the women’s game needed to go. It was like the next step,” Healy was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“We’ve been really successful WBBLAnd this kia super league Went really well, now in the hundred – there are some thriving domestic competitions, so it’s incredible to see the announcement of the IPL, especially, in India being able to develop the game.”
The 32-year-old Healy, who scored a belligerent century against the West Indies on Wednesday, led Australia to victory ODI world cup Finals, have long been a WIPL advocate.
She participated in the inaugural one-off exhibition game, a precursor to the current four-match Women’s T20 Challenge, a competition that will also be held this year.
“It (India) is such an untapped market, I think, in the women’s game.
“With so many guys, of course, they’re going to be unbeatable in 10 years’ time. They really needed a kind of leg-up in that domestic set-up to show that these amazing women What can you do, it’s really exciting.”
