Police say that he, along with three accomplices, made false allegations over a property dispute; Delhi Commission for Women demands strict action against complainant’s involvement in conspiracy
A 38-year-old woman, who claimed to have gang-raped her by five men for two days in Ghaziabad, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly making fabricated allegations. He was taken into custody soon after he was discharged in the morning from the Delhi government-run GTB Hospital.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal on Saturday wrote to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a high-level inquiry into the alleged gang rape of the woman.
The letter comes a day after the Ghaziabad police filed an FIR against the woman and three others for fabricated a case of gang rape over a property dispute. According to the police, the woman and her accomplices also gave money to some people to sensationalise the case.
Sihani Gate Circle Officer Alok Dubey said that the woman and her accomplices Azad, Gaurav and Afzal have been arrested in connection with the case.
Describing the developments in the case as “shocking”, Ms Maliwal wrote to Mr Adityanath requesting him to order a thorough investigation into the facts of the case.
‘No internal injuries’
The DCW said it had received a complaint on October 18 that five men gang-raped a woman for two days and “put iron rods” in her private parts. The woman alleges that she was tied and thrown in a jute bag on the roadside. “A foreign object was found and removed. He had no internal injury,” hospital sources had said.
Ms Maliwal requested that an inquiry be conducted as to who caused external injuries to the woman and put the object.
A DCW statement said, “If it is proved that the woman was actively involved in the conspiracy and she is not the victim but the perpetrator, strict action should be taken against her under Section 182 IPC and others.” “
Based on the complaint of a woman resident of Nand Nagri, Delhi, the Ghaziabad Police took five people into custody and interrogated them. “It is learned that there was a property dispute between one of the accused and the victim and a case was going on in the Karkardooma court,” a police officer said.
‘Hide at home’
According to a senior police officer, the woman “planned” because of a property dispute. “Azad was in direct contact with the woman, her call records show. Two days after the woman claimed she was abducted and raped, she was hiding at her home, according to [her cell phone’s] GPS location and CCTV cameras,” said an official.
A case has also been registered against a Delhi-based journalist, who is currently absconding. “The reporter received ₹5,000 from Azad for sensationalizing the matter and circulating these messages,” the official said.
Police said the arrested accused have been booked under sections of the IPC relating to cheating, forgery, providing false evidence, criminal conspiracy and common intention, and section 7 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.
