There is no doubt that everyone should wear a helmet while riding a two-wheeler. Common people can be fined heavily for not wearing a helmet. But what if a police officer flouts traffic rules? A picture of two women policemen riding a scooty without a helmet is going viral. This “traffic rule violation” by the women cops has sparked a debate on the internet that laws are only for the public and not for the officers. The incident was brought to light by a Twitter user who, while sharing the picture, asked the authorities how they would react if common people started riding bikes without helmets. What else? The official account of Mumbai Traffic Police has replied to the post.
Though the faces of the officers are not visible in the picture, the women policemen can be clearly seen flouting the traffic rules. Sharing the picture on Twitter, the user mentioned the vehicle number and tagged the officials asking if it qualifies for a “traffic rule violation”. Along with the picture, Rahul tweeted, “MH01ED0659. What if we travel like this?? Is it not a traffic rule violation?” Well, that’s not all. To draw the attention of the authorities, the Twitter user tagged Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, state Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and the official Twitter handle of Mumbai Police.
Responding to Rahul’s tweet, the Mumbai Traffic Police asked in the comments section about the “exact location” that he clicked the picture so that the right officers can intervene. Mumbai Police wrote, ‘Please provide the exact location for necessary action.’ In response, Rahul revealed that it happened on the “Eastern Express Highway (Dadar)”.
