Woman trapped under debris of building collapse on Chennai’s arterial Anna Salai dies

A 25-year-old woman was killed when debris of a building collapsed on her on Friday morning at Thousand Lights in Anna Salai, Chennai. Police said that another passerby was also injured in the incident.

The woman, identified as Padma Priya from Madurai, lived in Pammal and worked in a private firm on Anna Salai. The injured person has been identified as 25-year-old Vignesh Kumar.

Since the building was no longer being used, some workers were demolishing the structure using earthmovers. The incident took place when the woman was walking on the footpath; She was trapped under a block of rubble that had fallen on her. Vignesh Kumar was also walking on the footpath, and received minor injuries. Shocked passers-by immediately informed the police and fire and rescue service personnel.

On getting information, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and pulled out the injured woman from under the debris. Both the victims were taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital, where Padma Priya was declared ‘brought brought dead’.

Thousand Lights Police have registered a case and are investigating.
