Dindigul: A Woman and his two Children were found dead in a well at Ayyampalayam dindigul district of Tamil Nadu Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old S Lakshmi, his son Balashakti (4 years) and daughter Vismita (2 years).
Lakshmi married Saravanan five years ago. Saravanan is a security guard at a coconut farm belonging to Somasundaram near the banks of the Maruthanathi river in Ayyampalayam. The family lived on the farm.
Lakshmi’s mother Ramalakshmi told the police that it was learned that the 22-year-old girl was mentally disturbed for the past few weeks. Ramalakshmi stayed with the daughter and took care of Lakshmi and two grandchildren for the last two months.
Saravanan went out on Saturday morning. On returning home in the evening, she saw that her mother-in-law was sleeping. His wife and children were missing. As she fell asleep after lunch, Ramalakshmi did not know where she was. Saravanan and Ramalakshmi searched for his wife and children and eventually found dead bodies in a well in the field late at night.
Pattiveeranpatti police inquired. The bodies were retrieved from Batlagundu and with the help of rescue service personnel. The bodies were taken to Dindigul Medical College Hospital, where the postmortem was conducted on Sunday.
It is feared that Lakshmi may have thrown the children into the well before taking her own life. Case registered under section 174 (unnatural) Death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Since the couple was married less than seven years ago, the matter is investigated by a revenue department official to find out whether dowry harassment might have prompted the young woman to take the extreme step. Police said Laxmi’s family did not suspect any foul play in the deaths as they were aware of her mental illness and she was taking medication.
