Supernovas captain Harampreet Kaur talks about the importance of building partnerships after defeating Trailblazers by 49 runs in the opening match of the 2022 Women’s T20 Challenge at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The Supernovas started off with a 50-run partnership for the opening wicket off 30 balls by Deandra Dottin and Priya Punia.
But after skipper Harmanpreet and Harleen Deol’s 37-run stand, the Supernovas lost their way and ended up scoring 163 runs in 20 overs. Kaur spoke of the importance of building more partnerships to keep the opposition under pressure for a long time.
happy and relaxed
“The way we wanted to bowl in the second innings, we did really well. Whatever we had planned, we were able to execute it. A fair game for us. I think we were 20 runs short. Whenever I was looking to execute myself, we were losing wickets. So I had to stop there, looking for another two. We need to look for partnerships. Harleen and I were not able to do it after that,” said Harmanpreet.
Harmanpreet also praised Pooja Vastrakar, who won the player of the match award for taking four wickets. Behind her magic, Supernova limited the Trailblazer to 113/9.
“Pooja worked very well for us – that is what we were expecting from her. We just need to come back with the same speed. When you win the game, you are happy and relaxed. Because we won, I don’t think we’re too tired.”
Vastrakar also scored 14 runs in 12 balls with the help of a four, which dealt the final blow to Supernova’s innings. The next match of Supernova will be with Velocity on Tuesday, 24 May.
