Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that he will not contest the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections early next year.

He also said that the alliance between his party and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for the elections has been finalised.

“Our alliance with RLD is final. The seat-sharing is yet to be finalised,” he told PTI in an interview.

Mr Yadav, who is the SP MP from Azamgarh and the chief ministerial face of his party, said he “will not contest the assembly elections”.

On the possibility of taking along Chacha Shivpal Yadav’s Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) in the elections, he said, “I have no problem with it. He and his people will be given due respect.”
