New Delhi On the occasion of World Heart Day, private non-life insurer ICICI Lombard General Insurance has analyzed its internal claims data and highlighted the trends across various parameters.
The objective of this exercise is to understand the trends of cardiovascular diseases in India and shed light on how they can be kept at bay. ICICI Lombard strives to raise awareness about preventive care that can be taken for a healthy and happy heart.
The focused parameters for the study were: gender, city and category of surgery.
Gender Wise Claims Analysis: Claims data shows a declining trend in claims related to heart diseases in both genders
The year 2021-22 is showing a sharp decline in the trend compared to the year 2019-20 with only 62.4% so far among females with 63.79% as compared to males.

Metro City Wise Claim Analysis: All cities show a declining trend in claims for heart diseases; However, Mumbai still has the highest number of claims, followed by NCR.
Among the cities, Kolkata has registered the highest decline with 74.92% from 2018-19 to 2021-22.

Category of surgery analysis: The claims data further showed us that there was a decrease in both elective and non-elective surgeries in the COVID period, as the number decreased by 50.55% and 64.27% respectively.
