World Liver Day 2023: World Liver Day is observed across the world on 19 April to raise awareness about liver related disorders and diseases. Life is impossible with an unhealthy liver as it is a highly complex organ of the body which is responsible for immunity, digestion and metabolism. That’s why it is important that we keep the liver healthy.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, liver disease is the 10th most common cause of death in India. As a result, World Liver Day is celebrated to motivate people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, avoid eating oily and greasy food and to spread awareness about liver diseases.

This year the theme of World Liver Day is ‘Be alert, do regular liver check-ups, fatty liver can affect anyone’.

Liver is the second most important organ in our body (after the brain) and performs over five hundred functions related to metabolism, immunity, excretion, storage of absorbed nutrients and many more. Any crisis or disease in the liver not only affects the digestive system but also affects the proper functioning of the kidneys, lungs, heart and brain. In addition, liver health can be affected by excessive fat accumulation and various viruses.
Some common symptoms of liver disorders are loss of appetite, abdominal pain, jaundice, weight loss, etc.
