The first sci-fi-Sanskrit film in the history of world cinema, ‘Yanaam’, which revolves around India’s successful Mangalyaan mission, is all set to hit the audience this month.
The classical-language science documentary revolving around the success story of India’s historic ‘Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) aka ‘Mangalyaan’ will be premiered on August 21 in Chennai in front of a select audience.
MOM was successfully launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 2013.
ISRO Chairman S Somanatha will launch the premiere in Chennai at a ceremony which will also be attended by former space agency chairman K Radhakrishnan and current VSSC director S Unnikrishnan Nair.
National Award-winning filmmaker Vinod Mankara said Ravi Kottarakkara, secretary of the South Indian Film Chamber, will also participate in the event.
He said that ‘Yanam’ is based on Radhakrishnan’s book “My Odyssey: Memoirs of the Man Behind the Mangalyaan Mission”.
“The documentary aims to showcase the potential of ISRO and the capabilities of its scientists to the world. It tells how Indian scientists crossed all limits and made the complex Mars mission a huge success in its very first attempt,” They said.
Manakara said the film was made with the full support of ISRO, and added that the 45-minute documentary is a complete Sanskrit film in every way as the entire script and dialogues are in the ancient language.
Asked why most of the ancient texts on the subcontinent, including space and astronomy, were compiled in Sanskrit and therefore what is wrong with using that language as a medium in a film that tells about the country’s Mars mission, he said. Asked.
The director’s “Priyamanasam”, only the third Sanskrit film in the world, won the National Award for Best Feature Film in that language. It was also the first film in the feature section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in the year 2015.
Apart from screening it in the scientific community and universities and colleges across the country, the director also plans a global premiere of his documentary.
