Mumbai Indians pulled off a win against Delhi Capitals in the top-of-the-table clash between the two heavyweight teams to remain the lone unbeaten side in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League.

Mumbai bowlers Issy Wong, Sayka Ishaq and Hayley Mathews took three wickets each, while Pooja Vastrakar dismissed the remaining batsmen to partially bundle out the Capitals for 105.

Mathews was once again engaging with the bat as she stitched a 65-run partnership with opener Yastika Bhatia to take the match away from the Delhi unit as Nat Sciver and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur saw off the game and the Maharashtra team. Scored 109 runs for the loss of two wickets in 15 overs and registered another win.

With the positive result, Mumbai Indians have bagged three wins from three matches and remain on top of the table with six points to their name.

Delhi Capitals are second in the league after their first loss against Harmanpreet’s team. The team from the national capital has 4 points to their name after wins over Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriors in their opening two matches.

UP Warriors have moved up to the third spot with 2 points after they beat Gujarat Giants in their opening match before falling to DC in their follow-up game.

Gujarat Giants are also in fourth place with 2 points under their belt, having played one game more than the UP side. The Giants lost their first two games before registering their first win of the season against the hapless RCB.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are at the bottom of the table after losing all their three games in the WPL.

WPL 2023 Orange Cap Holder

DC’s Australian skipper Meg Lanning reached the top of the run-scorers’ list with an innings of 43 against Mumbai. The opener has now scored 185 runs in three matches.

Then there is West Indies all-rounder Mathews of MI who has scored 156 runs with the willow.

Indian Harleen Deol of Gujarat Giants completed the top three in the Orange Cap rankings with 113 runs.

WPL 2023 Purple Cap Holder

Mumbai Indians left-arm spinner Ishaq is leading the Purple Cap race with nine wickets after taking three wickets against Delhi.

Mathews also comes second in the wicket-takers’ rankings, having taken 6 wickets in all.

DC’s Tara Norris polished off the top three wicket-takers in the league with 6 wickets this season.
