Kolkata: Wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Co: On Friday, he started a new chapter in his playing career after officially taking over as the player-cum-mentor of Tripura Team for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season.
Saha tied up with Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) in the presence of the new President of the Association, Tapan Lodh, Joint Secretary Kishore Kumar Das and other senior officials.
“I will try my best to live up to the expectations of the Tripura Cricket Association. The player-cum-mentor responsibility that has been entrusted to me is a big task and I will try to improve the overall performance of Tripura team in the coming Ranji season,” Saha said after signing on the dotted lines.
However, this boy from Siliguri is not new to the state as he played a lot of cricket against Tripura in various zonal tournaments. “I know a lot of players from this state and have played against most of them. I think it will not take much time for my teammates to come together,” he said.
Although the Indian team management indirectly asked Saha to retire, the veteran of Test matches felt that he still had cricket left in him. “As long as I am able to contribute to the sport, I will continue to do so,” he said.
Regarding the season, Saha said, “We have three months to prepare. Definitely, it will help me to know the strengths and weaknesses of the team.”
The curtain has been lifted from his 15-year association with Saha. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) last week after getting a no-objection certificate (NOC) from an official who was hurt by his comments questioning Saha’s commitment to the sport.
