Yashwant likens the Pegasus controversy to the Watergate scandal. Ranchi News – Times of India

Hazaribagh: Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, who is currently the Vice President of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to set up a three-member committee to probe the “Pegasus Snoopgate” controversy.
Speaking to TOI at his residence in Hazaribagh, Sinha said, “I welcome the apex court’s decision to conduct a court-monitored probe into the illegal surveillance issue. While opposition leaders have been demanding a probe and answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in Parliament, the PM has remained silent on the grounds that it involves national security.
Sinha was among a group of people who moved the Supreme Court demanding a thorough probe into the scam. The group had said that Pegasus Snoopgate violated the privacy of citizens in the country. Former Union Minister also compared “phone tapping” watergate scandal in the United States.
“When the Watergate scandal broke out, then US President Richard Nixon resigned. But here Modiji will neither resign nor resign and if the scam turns out to be true then someone or his cabinet will digest all the allegations. “Modiji can be removed only if he loses the election. Unless there is a strong united coalition of the opposition, it will not be easy to defeat Modi or BJP in 2024.
On rising fuel prices, Sinha blamed the Center, citing its “flawed economic policies”. “What is worrying is that the increase in fuel prices is directly affecting the prices of essential commodities,” he said.
