The All Women Police, Mambalam on Wednesday arrested a yoga instructor for raping his disciple, a 21-year-old woman, and threatening to upload the video on the internet.
The accused Yograj alias Poovendran Chidambaram (45) was living in an apartment in Rathinambal Nagar, Kodambakkam, police said.
The victim, a physiotherapist, had joined his yoga program last February.
He allegedly touched her inappropriately and proposed to her through a text message sent on her mobile phone. Despite his warnings, he continued such acts.
The complainant alleged that he invited her to his house on the pretext of organizing a birthday party and raped her by giving her intoxicating soft drink.
The complainant alleged that he captured it on his mobile phone and repeatedly raped her by showing the video and threatening to upload it on the internet if she did not cooperate.
The complainant alleged that the accused also kept pornographic videos of some other women on his mobile phone.
He followed her continuously and visited her workplace. He pressured her to marry him.
Police registered a case against Yograj for rape, criminal intimidation and other offenses under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
After being produced in the court, he was sent to judicial custody.
Police sources said criminal cases are pending against the accused in Tiruppur and Hong Kong.
