Both yoga and Pilates are low-impact exercises that help avoid injuries. Breathwork is central to both of these exercise regimes, but it can vary in different ways. In yoga, you must engage in a full belly breathing method, in which you inhale and exhale through your nose. Unlike yoga breathing, Pilates demands a 3-dimensional breathing pattern during practice i.e. inhaling through the nose, directing the breath to the sides of the ribs, exhaling through the mouth.
In addition, yoga has more variety than Pilates. As discussed, common yoga types include Hatha, Vinyasa, Bikram, Ashtanga, Iyengar, etc.
In comparison, Pilates is more ‘fast-paced’ than yoga, as the latter focuses more on mindfulness.
