Social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal targeting the now defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. He accused the CM of being intoxicated with power.
Mr. Hazare said that for the first time since becoming the Chief Minister, he is writing a letter to Mr. Kejriwal to remind him about his book ‘Swaraj’ in favor of prohibition.
‘Forgot ideologies’
“You have written many idealistic things in the book. Everyone expected from you, but after becoming the Chief Minister, you seem to have forgotten that ideology and that’s why the Delhi government came up with a new liquor policy.
He said that this policy will encourage corruption and it is not in the interest of the people at all. Mr. Hazare wrote, “Like an addiction to alcohol, there is an addiction to power and you seem to have drowned in it.”
In response to the letter, Mr Kejriwal told the media that it was the BJP that was “using” Mr Hazare for political gains as the CBI had found nothing in the probe involving Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
“The BJP called me a terrorist during the Punjab Assembly elections and when no one believed in him, they brought in Kumar Vishwas. Now, they are using Anna Hazare to target my government,” Mr Kejriwal said.
The activist said that after becoming the Chief Minister, Mr. Kejriwal had forgotten about the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act. “You did not make any effort to bring a strong Lokayukta Act, rather the Delhi government has brought a policy on alcohol which destroys the lives of many. This shows that there is a difference between what you preach and what you practice.”
