Zepto launches farmer-centric app

New Delhi: E-grocery platform Zepto has launched a Kisan Jogadaav app, which will help digitize supply chains and enhance the offering of fresh fruits and vegetables for farmers working with the company.

The Kisan app will help in tracking crop cycles apart from receiving payments. The collection centers located in villages will enable farmers to sell their produce directly through the app without the hassle of price auctions or lengthy credit transactions with buyers in the market. Through the app, farmers can also choose their trade destination with full visibility of prices for their produce, the company said in a statement on Friday.

The app will digitize the entire process from sowing to sale, helping farmers who sell on Zepto streamline their supplies and produce. In the initial phase of launch, the app will on-board over 300 farmers from Maharashtra.

This step has been taken with the increasing demand for fruits and vegetables on quick delivery service.

“Demand for fruits and vegetables has grown exponentially among our customers. More than 50% of Zepto’s orders include fresh fruit and vegetables, making it one of our strongest categories. Our deep relationship with the farming community, and our ability to help them realize the best potential for their produce, has made it possible for us to meet this growing demand,” said Vinay Dhanani, Chief Operating Officer, Zepto Is.

Zepto also announced the launch of its farmer engagement program ‘Zepto Bloom’.

Currently, Zepto sources fresh produce from farmers in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. In 2023, the company plans to expand its farmer network to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand through its Zepto Bloom program.

“Through this program and our app, we aim to build industry-best supply chain practices and ensure transparency in the process. By supporting farmers with fair pricing, setting quality standards in seeds and crops, collection By assisting in the process, optimizing wastage and returns, enabling technical know-how, and financing through partnerships with NBFCs, Zepto Bloom will help farmers move faster to commerce,” said Srinibas Swain, Senior Vice President and said the business head of the fresh category.
